Medicine Wheel

The Medicine Wheel training is the journey of your personal path to power, the journey to become empowered in whatever you do in your life. I always tell my students that this does not guarantee that you will become a shaman. The rites of passage from the shamanic tradition of the Andes will be transmitted to you as they were transmitted to me from my teacher, but whether you become a shaman or not, is a decision that is made between you and Spirit. These rites of passage will inform you in how to walk the medicine way in life and I believe this something our world needs today.

The Medicine Wheel consists of a series of four workshops that start on Thursday at noon and end Sunday at noon. We will engage in ceremony, create community and do the work of each direction during this series of four day workshops. In this tradition we start in the South direction and then move on to the West, North and then the East. Each student must start at the beginning, in the South.

Work of the South: The South direction is the path of the serpent. To embark on a path of power we must shed our past and programming. This is the work of the South, where we release our past energetically and mythically as the serpent sheds its skin. This is our first act of power. It is accomplished by working with three themes in our lives that are keeping our energy stuck in the past. As they are healed our energy is brought into present time, empowering us to fulfill our life's purpose. In the South we also begin to assemble a mesa, the shaman’s altar, a collection of khuyas or medicine stones.

Work of the West: The West direction is the path of the jaguar. In the West we make our first journey beyond our fear of death so that we may be claimed fully by life. We also embrace our shadow (our unknown/dark side) so that we can learn from it and choose differently. We work to heal our biological and karmic lineages so that our choices become our own, no longer sourcing from the past. Now we can begin the journey of being informed directly from Source. We are able to do this because we have learned from the past but are no longer attached to it and we no longer need to project our shadow onto others to learn our life lessons.

Work of the North: The North direction is the path of the hummingbird and the ancestors of our shamanic lineage. The North is the direction of magic. We begin to step into our power in present time, learning the practices of Invisibility, Mastery of Time and the Ability to Keep a Secret from Ourselves. The humming bird teaches us that we can drink directly from the nectar of life, and we take our place at the table with the ancestors, a place that was prepared for us at the beginning of time.

Work of the East: The East direction is the path of the Eagle/Condor. The journey East is the hardest journey the shaman makes. It is the path of vision and enlightenment. The Eagle and Condor teach us about vision and how to fly wing to wing with the Great Spirit. The East is the direction of destiny; the direction where we step into a place where we dream the world into being, for ourselves and future generation. We become the mythmakers.
